Toes and Cuticle Care

What does toe and cuticle care mean?

It's crucial to understand that the nail cuticle is often misunderstood. It specifically refers to the dry, hardened skin around the toenails and the dead skin growing onto the toenail bed. This can be unattractive and may prevent nail polish from adhering properly. In some cases, unhealthy cuticles can cause pain and bleeding and pose a risk for people with certain medical conditions such as diabetes.

No matter the specific concerns about cuticles, it's essential to keep them softened and hydrated. The cuticle is a translucent layer of non-living skin that is firmly attached to the nail bed. It serves a vital function by acting as a seal that prevents infection by blocking microorganisms from entering under the skin.

While the cuticle technically only refers to the dead tissue on the nail plate, it's still crucial to keep the surrounding skin hydrated and healthy. Good foot and toe health involves maintaining the cuticle, living tissue around the nail, and the skin under the toenails' free edge in a soft, hydrated, and injury-free condition.
