When the skin's outer layer (the epidermis) becomes more active due to repetition or a mild injury, a thickened pad of dead skin cells protects the underlying tissues and forms a callus. Taking matters into your own hands (no pun intended) is dangerous as you risk removing too much, which could lead to an infection. Remember, a hand callus is a toughened area of skin that develops from repetitive friction or pressure. It's the body's way of protecting the skin from damage, often forming on the palms of the hands.

You typically don't need treatment for calluses unless they cause pain or embarrassment. Calluses are there to shield the skin from irritation.
