METHICILLIN-RESISTANT STAPHYLOCOCCUS AUREUS

(MRSA)

Many technicians at nail salons may lack proper training and neglect to clean certain tools adequately. This oversight can sometimes result in more than just a minor infection; clients can contract serious infections like MRSA, which can be permanent and harmful.

It's crucial to ensure your nail technician changes gloves between clients due to the risk of MRSA, a dangerous superbug. If you've been following recent news, you may have noticed an increase in reports about methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus.

MRSA infections can result in severe scarring, amputation, or even death and are resistant to antibiotics. While not common, MRSA can spread in nail salons, causing pain on hands and under fingernails.

Symptoms typically manifest within 24 hours, causing pain and discomfort in your fingers, along with swollen, red skin that may ooze pus. MRSA can be transmitted through the sharing of unsanitized nail files and other tools, which should be in a disinfecting solution for at least 10 minutes and then treated with a sterilizing agent.

It's essential to thoroughly clean and sanitize foot baths correctly between clients.
