ONYCHOMYCOSIS/TINEA UNGUIM

(TOENAIL FUNGUS)

What is the main cause of nail fungus?

You're more likely to get a fungal nail infection if you don't keep your feet clean and dry.

Wear shoes that cause your feet to get hot and sweaty. Walk around barefoot in places where fungal infections can spread easily, like communal showers, locker rooms, gyms, and nail salons.

Can you get a fungal infection from a nail salon?

Yes, you can. Anytime your nails are getting wet, cut, or filed or your cuticles are being trimmed, bacteria and fungi can get in under the nail. Both bacteria and fungi can cause nail infections and are very common in the nail industry. Foot Spas need to be thoroughly cleaned after every client with liquid disinfectants, but these only work if they are left to soak for at least 20 minutes. Salons also need to clean their instruments using an autoclave or steam to eliminate germs. We do not book back-to-back appointments at Nail'd.It! which allows us to perform proper sanitization between every client to avoid any cross-contamination.

What are the chances of getting nail fungus?

Toenail fungus is very common, especially as people start to age. Medical experts estimate that onychomycosis affects 1 in 10 people overall.

What does nail fungus from a salon look like?

Symptoms may include thickening, discoloration (white or yellow), crumbling, lifting, and spreading to the skin around the nail and being very contagious.

Now, go, enjoy a manicure and pedicure!

It is safe and self-care!
