After a long wait, our "FOOTSIE BATH" has arrived!

It is the cleanest and smartest revolutionary way to go for your pedicure with its one-time use liner, meticulously designed to fit right into the tub.

It is important to feel comfortable about asking a salon about its cleaning practices to ensure they follow the correct guidelines.

Did you know that to correctly clean a foot spa, it needs to sit in a disinfectant for a minimum of 15-20 minutes or as directed on the label?

Health Experts link infections to whirlpool spa chair models as they are more challenging to clean. The pipe systems and filters allow water to stagnate if they are not cleaned properly after every use, which leads to a build-up of contaminants and your foot infection.

Cracked heels are a common issue, particularly in the warmer weather with open heeled shoes and sandals.  the primary causes of cracked heels include dry skin, thickened skin and calluses.  Its also worth noting that cracked sin can develop on the ball of the foot. They can appear serious but are usually minor and can be treated. A good pedicure and an enhaned moisture treatment can promote healing.

Toes and Cuticle Care

During your pedicure, ensure your toenails are cut short and straight.  Cutting them in a U-shape can make them grow into the side of the skin and can lead to infections. A certified nail technician can trim the edges to stop them from causing discomfort although a licensed podiatrist should assist in persistent ingrown toenails.  Try to wear shoes that fit well to avoid bunions and ingrown toenails.

People with diabetes often have skin issues and may need regular pedicures to manage associated complications. The skin of a diabetic is more susceptible to bacterial and fungal infections due to compromised oxygen supply and inadequate cell nutrition caused by poor circulation.  Fluctuating blood sugar levels can increase the risk of infections. The skin can become dry and develop calluses that can crack, increasing the risk of infection

Seed Corn

A seed corn is a tiny, discrete callus that can be very tender if it's on a weight-bearing part of the foot.

Seed corn is a particularly small type of foot corn that can form on the foot due to excess pressure or friction. They typically form on the soles of the feet and are associated with dry skin. Seed corns usually appear as hard, circular, well-defined spots of skin, and they are smaller than other types of corns.

Corns

In general, thickened skin on top of the toes are called corns.  Soft corns can develop between the toes (heloma molle) and are kept soft by the moisture.  Corns are the result of friction or pressure on the skin and develop naturally to protect the skin underneath. They can be more common among people who wear ill-fitting shoes, have sweaty feet or stand for long periods of time.  They also affect women more than men.

Calluses are yellowish or pale in colour. They feel lumpy to the touch, but because the affected skin is thick, it may be less sensitive to touch than the skin around it and are often bigger and wider than corns, with less-defined edges. They typically form over the bony area just under the toes, which is the area of skin that takes the person’s weight when they are walking.

Planter Callus

Plantar calluses are sometimes referred to as "plantar hyperkeratosis."  A plantar callus is a particular type of callus that forms on the bottom of the heel. It happens when one of the foot bones is longer than the other and hits the ground more forcefully when a person walks. This causes the skin under this bone to thicken.  Plantar calluses can be caused by ill-fitting shoes, high heels, or other factors that put excessive pressure on the feet.
