INFECTIONS

What are the potential risks associated with visiting a nail salon?

Infections represent a primary concern regarding injuries in nail salons. These can occur in several ways.

For instance, if a nail technician inadvertently cuts the cuticle or surrounding skin too closely, it may result in skin breaches and bleeding. You may be at risk for bacterial, viral, and fungal infections, including potential exposure to Hepatitis B/C and HIV.

Additionally, harmful chemicals and nail dust—both artificial and natural—can pose health risks through skin contact, inhalation, or ingestion.

A staphylococcal infection most commonly causes paronychia due to the Staphylococcus aureus bacterium; however, strep bacteria and fungi can also lead to nail infections. Such infections typically arise when the protective barriers surrounding the fingernails or toenails are compromised.

Furthermore, whirlpools and inadequately sanitized tools can facilitate the transmission of bloodborne diseases, such as HIV and Hepatitis, through minor cuts or the reuse of instruments.

Now, go, enjoy a manicure and pedicure!

It is safe and self-care!
