HEPATITIS

Can you get hepatitis at a nail salon?

Transmission of hepatitis via non-single-use instruments during nail salon and barbershop exposures is a real yet under-recognized risk. You can also get infected by using unsanitized nail clippers, nail files, and other salon equipment.

Should I worry about a cut from a nail salon?

Absolutely. Occasionally, your nail tech may cut your cuticle or extra skin too close, causing a break in your skin and your hand to bleed. This can easily lead to an infection on its own, but the risk becomes greater as the appointment continues if the wound is not properly treated.

What are the signs of hepatitis in nails?

Nail changes are less commonly discussed but can occur in individuals with hepatitis C. Patients might notice changes in nail colour, texture, or growth patterns. These changes can include the development of white lines or spots on the nails, known as leukonychia, or the thickening and discoloration of the nails.
