STAPHYLOCOCCAL INFECTION

STAPH INFECTION

What is the most common infection from a nail salon?

The most common cause of paronychia is a staph infection caused by the bacterium Staphylococcus aureus. Strep bacteria and fungi can cause nail infections as well. The infection itself can occur when the protective barriers around your fingernails or toenails are breached.

Staph skin infections, including MRSA, generally start as swollen, painful red bumps that might look like pimples or spider bites. There are over 30 types of staph infections.

Acute paronychia develops over a few hours when a nail fold becomes painful, red, and swollen. Yellow pus may appear under the cuticle. In some cases, fever and painful glands under the arms accompany a particularly severe case of acute paronychia. It is usually due to "Staph" bacteria germs.

Even invisible nicks expose you to the possibility of infection, which is also why you shouldn’t schedule a pedicure within two days of shaving your legs.

Forget about trendy pedicures that have flesh-nibbling fish to remove dead skin. The fish use their teeth, which could create cuts, and who knows what germs they’re carrying?

Now, go, enjoy a manicure and pedicure!

It is safe and self-care!
