Diabetic Skin/Footcare

What does diabetic skin/footcare mean?

People with diabetes often have skin issues on their lower extremities and may need regular pedicures to manage associated complications. The skin of diabetic patients is more susceptible to bacterial and fungal infections due to compromised oxygen supply and inadequate cell nutrition caused by poor circulation, a common feature of diabetes. Fluctuating blood sugar levels further increase the risk of infections.

Untreated cuts and blisters can lead to serious infections and even amputation. Diabetic skin often becomes excessively dry and may develop calluses that can crack, increasing the risk of fungal infections. Diabetic neuropathy results in reduced foot sensation and compromised circulation, heightening the risk of complications. To prevent issues, diabetics should have monthly professional pedicures to manage their foot health.
